This original 12-inch fused glass artwork celebrates the beauty and cultural significance of Hagåtña, Guam, featuring the iconic Chocolate House in the foreground with the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica in the distance. Designed from an original pattern, the piece is constructed from more than 200 individually cut pieces of COE 96 glass and fired in a single full-fuse, requiring meticulous planning to preserve crisp hard-edge lines while allowing every piece to flow together into one seamless composition.
As a member of the CHamoru diaspora, I created this work as a tribute to the island of Guam. Although I have been working with glass for only two years, I quickly fell in love with the process and challenges of working with glass.
