Class Description: Stained glass has once again become popular. Of course that's why you're here. This is a great place to get started.  Students will be taught the basic copper foil method, including safety, types of glass, patterns, cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, cleaning, patinas, and framing. 
Everything you'll need to know to carry on this fabulous art form.

NOTE: You may want to bring a snack/lunch for an optional lunch break or you may go out to get lunch.

                    Closed toed shoes are recommended when cutting or handling glass.
                    Safety glasses should be worn during class. Glasses will be provided if necessary.

Type of Class: Demonstration and many hands-on projects. Students will make many projects and be encouraged to create their one of a kind pieces based on the things they've learned.

Class Description: In this jam packed three day class, students will learn the basics, including glass compatibility, kiln preparation and operation, fusing, slumping and annealing. Sample tons of fusing supplies including frits, stringers, confetti and Dichroic glass along with the use of various slumping , textured, and casting molds.  Words can't do this class justice. Create your own unique glass pumpkin in this traditional glass blowing class.  Students will learn the basics of glass blowing while making their own pumpkin.  Students will be taught about safety, working with glass blowing equipment and tools, while working with Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace.  Individuals will work with Delphi instructors and can participate as much as they feel comfortable.  Students will complete one pumpkin during class.  Length of class is an appoximate and depends on the number of participants in class.

Title: 2-Day Glass Painting Without a Map with Rita Schimelfarb

Skill: Intermediate painting level.

Description:
This class is a departure from a traditional approach to glass painting using dry matt layers, as most of painting and shading will be done while the paint is wet.
Students will walk away with 3 painted pieces of glass, all of which will be fired twice in the kiln.

• The first piece will be a concentration of techniques around color enameling and negative space design. We will do one layer in lavender oil and second layer in water-based paint medium.
• The second piece will focus on foreground and background elements. It will be executed with propylene glycol as a medium for both layers.
• The last piece will be a detailed painting of a face done in two layers using non-traditional open medium for painting.

Tracing will only be done for the face painting, and only lightly. The rest of the painting is encouraged to be done free-hand.

Students are asked to bring their favorite brushes for painting. If anyone is allergic to surgical-style nitrile gloves, personal gloves are recommended. Respirators or masks to protect from paint particles are encouraged, masks will be provided for students if necessary.

All materials and a brush kit are included.

Rita Shimelfarb is a glass artist who focuses on utilizing both traditional and innovative contemporary glass forming and painting techniques in her work. Born in USSR in 1972, she immigrated to USA as a refugee in 1989. Since then, she has made Chicago her home. Shimelfarb completed a bachelor’s degree in Math and Computer Science and finds her analytical background indispensable in solving various glass-construction challenges and in developing new processes for image and medium manipulation. She has worked extensively with her mentor Sylvia Laks – a celebrated stained-glass painter and has taken several glass-forming and painting workshops with world renown glass artists. Her work has been exhibited nationwide and is included in a number of public and private collections.



 

Create your own unique glass ornament in this traditional glass blowing class.  Students will learn the basics of glass blowing while making their own ornament.  Students will be taught about safety, working with glass blowing equipment and tools, while working with Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace.  Individuals will work with Delphi instructors and can participate as much as they feel comfortable.  Students will complete one ornament during class.  Length of class is an appoximate and depends on the number of participants in class.
Ornaments need to be annealled (cooled down slowly) in a kiln and will be available the following day.
Ornaments can be shipped for a small fee.

Create your own unique glass flower in this traditional glass furnace class.  Students will learn the basics of glass furnace work while making a one of a kind glass flower.  You will be able to choose your color combination from a variety of glass frit (crushed up glass) as you learn to shape the molten glass with tools.  Students will be taught about safety, working with glass blowing equipment and tools, while working with Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace.  Individuals will work with Delphi instructors and can participate as much as they feel comfortable.  Students will complete one flower during class.  The creation of the flower does not require blowing the glass. Description: Learn the inside and out of how to successfully make fused glass Pocket Vases.  The decorative options when combining texture and function are truly endless.  This Class will provide all you need to know to create a one of a kind free standing pocket vase with wrought iron stand included.  Students will also make a second decorative pocket vase suitable for hanging.  This class is a one day, 2½  hour class that will focus on firing schedules, sizing, incorporating wire and adding three dimensional texture.

Safety: Please do not wear sandals if cutting or handling glass. Safety glasses must be worn during class, provided if needed.

Class Description: Try you hand at  beadmaking in this 3 hour beginner workshop. This class will provide an overview of glass beadmaking using a torch. Melt glass rods to shape into colorful beads in this hands-on introduction to beadmaking. All materials and use of our torches are included in this fun and informative warm glass experience.  We appologize in advance for getting you hooked.

Class Description: Kick it up a notch (we promise it will be fun) with Beadmaking Workshop II . Add to your already awesome skill base learning how to pull and use one and two color stringers to make dots and flowers. Try a variety of hand tools for stretching, shaping and mashing. You'll be glad you tried this!
