Zinc Rebar - 22 lb Box

Item# 8615Z

Reinforcing and Framing, January 27, 2015 5 stars

Pros
Strong, stiff, sturdy, yet easily cut with a dremmel. Keeps lines perfectly straight -- especially as compared to other reinforcement products at Delphi -- because of its relative thickness.

Cons
Doesn't "take" the solder as easily as copper-coated or pre-tinned surfaces. I was able to work with it by applying a clean hot iron until the rod was HOT before applying solder.

Other Thoughts
Since weight was a mostly-useless number for my purposes, I waited for a discount coupon, and blindly bought a box. So that nobody ever has to again: My package consisted of 32 pieces of 6' (72") lengths of 1/8"×5/16" flat metal rods. The box was secured to a complementary length of wood (a standard lumberyard 2-by-4), presumably to keep the metal from bending. B-)

English Muffle Majesty Blue

Item# EM4926

Deep, rich blue, October 29, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Gorgeous cobalt blue when light streams through it; dark navy (almost black) without.

Cons
The muffle texture isn't as easy to cut as smooth glass, but I consider this a 'pro'...

Clear and pale, October 29, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Clear with a very pale, wispy blue; the even texture makes it super easy to cut. Using this for a very pale sky in my projects.

Cons
None

3/4" Fine Twofers Grinder Bits - 2 Pack

Perfect for Mosaic Grinding, October 23, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Bargain price! They leave a pretty smoothly ground edge.

Cons
I prefer Standard grit for stained glass (this Fine grit might be a little too fine)... but if you're a little less impatient or more accurate when you cut glass, you'll probably love these. Ha! :-D

1/8" Standard Twofers Grinder Bits - 2 Pack

For Stained Glass Details, October 23, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Perfect for "cutting into" inside curves in stained glass. You can even create an inside corner with these. :-)

Cons
Too coarse for jewelry making or mosaics; this grit is coarse enough to cause little micro-chips along the ground edge of your glass.

1/16" Brass Rods - 5 Pack

Box hinges, October 23, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Slim and sturdy. Combine with the 3/32" brass tubes 5 pack to create box hinges.

Cons
This con is really a pro: These are a little hard to bend. But if you've ever had a box hinge give out on you, it's been because of someone using wimpy wire. Just saying. :-)

Other Thoughts
I wish these came in bulk quantities or longer lengths (to cut down as needed)!

Box hinges, October 23, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Slim and sturdy. Combine with the 1/16" brass rods 5 pack to create box hinges. Round toothpicks fit perfectly inside to give you handles for tinning.

Cons
These need to be cut with a Dremel. Nothing else seems to work for me.

Other Thoughts
I wish these came in bulk quantities or longer lengths (to cut down as needed)!

Spectrum Sky Blue & White Wispy Iridized

Item# SI83391

Perfect Glass to Depict the Sky!, October 22, 2014 5 stars

Pros
The color is a clear, brilliant aqua (cyan) with wispy clouds lightly distributed throughout. The non-irid version of this sheet is perfect for bright, sunny skies; this iridized version adds a sunrise effect whenever front light hits it. Spectacular!

Cons
This glass has the potential to be addictive...? ;-)

3/8" Venetian Glass Tile Value Assortment - 3 lb Bulk

Item# 42719B

quality AND quantity!, September 16, 2014 5 stars

Pros
Great variety of tiny glass tiles; they arrived without a single broken tile (which was actually a bit of a pleasant shock!)

Cons
I suppose if you wanted (or didn't want) a particular color, an assortment like this might not work for you... but then you would buy the colors individually, wouldn't you? ;-)

Other Thoughts
Your mileage may vary, of course, but my pack came with approximately equal quantities of 10 colors: dark blue, light blue, mid-green, dark green and rootbeer-brown speckled, as well as white, black, yellow, orange and red solid

16 Gauge Pre-Tinned Wire - 1 lb

Item# 452116

good price for a great product, September 13, 2014 5 stars

Pros
perfect for use with stained glass since it bends and solders easily; large quantity 16oz spool is much more economical than the more commonly available 4oz spools

Cons
need jewelers tools to make very tight turns or corners at this gauge; but I consider that to be a pro because this means it also holds its shape well

Other Thoughts
excellent weight for making O-rings for picture hanging; also fits very snugly into the 3/32"OD copper tubing that Delphi sells for making box hinges

Oceanside Rack Pack Glass Pack

Good variety at a Great price!, May 25, 2014 5 stars

Pros
My crate contained 3-5 sheets of each color/texture, including a wonderful variety of opals, streakies, cathedrals and a few opaques; extremely well packaged, with no damage but a few very tiny chips

Cons
Don't buy a crate if you want a specific color spectrum; I wanted background shades but was thrilled with what I received: fewer than a third of these pieces will be "just background colors" for me!

Other Thoughts
If your expectations are sane, the price per square foot is reason enough to give this a five star rating!
