Gwyn's Special Plate

Last year my wonderful friend Gwyn had to start the dreaded downsizing in order to go and live with her daughter.  During the process she found  her precious blue and white childhood plate .  So many memories flooded into her head about those days over 85 years ago in Saskatchewan during the depression. Gwyn wanted to share these memories.She remembered that her plate had always been cracked but that didn't matter.   In a few years she knew that when her family would go through her things that an old cracked little plate would be discarded.  So she brought the plate to me.  She knew that I love to bring a new life to old things - especially old china and glass.  Together we made a plan.  I would make it into as many pieces of jewelry as possible for her to give to daughters, daughters in law, and grand daughters. The result was 3 pendants, 7 pins and one pair of ear rings.  And along with each piece of jewelry would go a little handmade book telling the story of the plate and her childhood days back in the depression.  This photo and text filled book is a small accordian fold with a wall paper covered cover tied with blue ribbon.   Needless to say it was a hit and it was certainly one of the most special projects I have experienced
