Bluebirds Stained Glass Circle

A handmade stained glass and wire suncatcher of a bluebird couple in a tree of wire. The combination of wire and glass all held together within a circle makes a bright and airy suncatcher.

The outside of the suncatcher is a thin 1/4 " copper pipe that I coated with solder so it would have the same silver color as the rest of the piece. The circle is 8.5 inches around. The focal points of this suncatcher are the two bluebirds. They are made of stained glass in the traditional method. The male bird is flying with his wings outstretched and is made of royal blue glass on the body with a red glass belly and and orange beak. The female bird is a lighter blue glass and has a light orange belly and beak. She is sitting on a nest made of wire. The bird's eyes are painted on with acyrlic glass paint.

Two wire tree branches fill in the space between the birds. The branches have one main thick branch of wire, with thinner wire branches extending off the main one. Each branch curls at the end, and some of them have purple glass seed beads in the curl. The bottom branch starts at the left side and holds the wire nest, then curls across to the right attaching to the circle and to the male bird. The top branch also begins on the left and continues over to the right side.

The suncatcher hangs from a wire loop soldered to the top of the copper ring. The entire piece is 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) around.
