This was my first piece in about a year. I decided to finally take the plunge and buy a collection of glass of my own and found myself with lots of blue and green... fitting for Southeast.
The base is a shelf I found in my pantry, conveniently already white. I spent an entire weekend gluing down the trees and starfish (I work at an aquarium so the starfish are a must), both of which bloodied every one of my fingertips. I then spent about five weeks before and after school in the art classroom so I could have access to the grinder, slowly putting together the water and sky. I really enjoyed the fact that I could now use large pieces of glass in any shape I wanted - in my previous pieces, I was mostly limited to whatever scraps were left behind from stained glass projects.
This piece sold for $300 the day I posted it on my personal facebook page - my first sale.
