HUMMING BIRDS AT SUN SET

0 loves
Description:

This lampshade has been desgined from a garden here in Oceanside, California. The shade is 11.5" tall, 13" in diameter and has a 5.5" aperture. The shade is constructed of Uroboros and Youghiogheny glass with 3/16" copper foil. There are 587 individual pieces of glass.

The shape of the lampshade has been made in paper mache, from an old stainless steel industrial food mixer bowl. The design was drawn on the the mold, and constructed in the maner and fashion of a Tiffany Lamp. Photographs were taken of humming birds and plants and shrubs from the garden for the design of the lampshade

The design incorporates 4 different humming birds, palm trees, cactus and flowers. The sky and sun are of a sun set, with two different sun set scenes. The lamp shade can be turned around 180 degrees, thus giving 2 different views. The lampshade stands on a magnificent 17-inch tree trunk and ivy bronze lamp base.

The design took 14 hours to design and the construction of the lamp took 58.5 hours.

This project was a copper foil exam piece for my City & Guilds Insitute of London qualification, Level 3 in Decorative Stained Glass and Design.
