DINING ROOM LIGHT

Description:

This is the glass in our condo-villa dining room.  When we moved in during the summer of 2003, there was just a plain opening with clear glass.  My one son and I worked on this piece (ten square feet).  He made the design; he likes the work of Frank Lloyd Wright.  I did the fabrication: cutting grinding, soldering--with black patina.  You can see the simple lines and how he designed the panels like steps.  The border into the frame is Crystal Ice.  The glass panels are made of clear GNA.  The pencil bevels and small jewels give a bit of color and sparkle.  At the different times of the year, the sun at noon and from the west blazes into our great room, casting spectrum colors across the walls; the jewels bring added color.  At night, the black of the night makes the entire picture look like a reflecting mirror in a frame.  When the moon is seen in the window, we are reminded of Tom Hanks in Apollo 13, looking for the Earth through his capsule windows.  One of the most beautiful pieces I have ever made.
