Water Platter

Made with Bullseye powders and frits, the Water Platter measures 15 inches in diameter. The center was fired first, followed separately by the rim and frit balls. Then pieces were then combined and backed with clear. The idea behind this piece is a single drop of water and surface tension. The central patterns evoke the moment of impact and the subsequent intersecting patterns of ripples which are produced by the breaking apart both of the surface tension of the water and the falling drop of water itself. The rim alludes to the splash patterns produced by the force of the impact, and the smaller and smaller balls of water which dance on the surface as the water droplets reduce in size by half and then half, and then half before finally the surface of the water is smooth once more.
