Description:
This is my one and only attempt at making a mosaic glass. This was done for the Goverment Services Building. They had a 7' circle where a tree once stood on the sidwalk next to the entrance to the building. The salt and shady area continued to kill any trees that were planted there. So I was asked to create a mosaic to go in the circle instead. Almost every aspect of this project was custom, with the exception of the pattern that was slightly altered from the book We Are One. Each word was precast in seperate sections. I had to make custom trays to hold the concrete in the curve of the round. The center pattern was enlarged and laminated to the size for the center part. I used a waterheater drip pan for this cast. After all the sections were made and cured, we then poured the concrete in the 7' circle and submerged the precast pieces into it and lined everything up and let it set up. This was in a very high traffic area of the sidewalk and held up surprisingly well. The pictures truely do not do it justice. This was inplace until just a year ago when renovations changed the sidewalk location. So for that reason I am glad I took some pictures of the finished product before it was removed.
