The Southern Cassowary is native to Australia. This extraordinary bird is the third largest in the world and is characterized by its unique prehistoric-looking crest, beautiful coloring, and powerful legs.
This piece is made from Bullseye glass, Glassline paint applied with a brush, powdered glass frit, and metallic ceramic pens. The body is textured by applying a thick layer of glass powders and manipulating the powder with a brush handle. The eye is a dichroic glass cabochon which has been ground on the sides as well as the back to achieve the desired thickness and shape. Torch-pulled stringers hint at the forest environment in which these birds live.
