Southern Cassowary

0 loves
Description:

The Southern Cassowary is native to Australia.  This extraordinary bird is the third largest in the world and is characterized by its unique prehistoric-looking crest, beautiful coloring, and powerful legs.

This piece is made from Bullseye glass, Glassline paint applied with a brush, powdered glass frit, and metallic ceramic pens.  The body is textured by applying a thick layer of glass powders and manipulating the powder with a brush handle.  The eye is a dichroic glass cabochon which has been ground on the sides as well as the back to achieve the desired thickness and shape.  Torch-pulled stringers hint at the forest environment in which these birds live.
