A fused glass powder frit rendering of a Siamese Fighting Fish or Betta fish. When they are courting a female, the male will build a bubble nest, which I created with individual fused glass dots in clear and iridized clear, tack fused onto the piece to give some texture and realism.
This technique involves sifting dry glass powder frit onto a base glass, pushing the powder around with various tools, then firing. Multiple layers and multiple firings help me create detail. I was able to create the look of scales with glass line paint on the first layer. I've included a photo showing this piece during a couple of stages.
