The Halcyon Kingfisher is a mythical bird that brings about the halcyon days of winter, that being the seven days near the winter equinox when storms never occur.
Myth says that the Goddess Alcyone made a nest on the beach and laid her eggs, while her father, Aeolus, God of Winds, restrained the winds and calmed the waves. Here, the Halcyon dives through the fiery winds to reach the safety of the nest on the beach. The fire looks foreboding, but it is transformative and affords the psychic growth that is needed. The hero’s or heroine’s journey is one of death and rebirth and the discovering of potentialities. This glass panel
