Clouds By: Matt Takacs

Description:

These forms were inspired by clouds and the color combinations drawn from the elements of Earth, Water, and Fire. The suspension is important to this work because the viewer is able to walk or sit undrneath the installation to see a different perspective of the work. From underneath, the handpulled curvy cane, is similar to an action painting like a Jackson Pollock and brings in a 2-dimensional aspect.  From a distance the viewer can see the volume and buildup of overlapping color and appears to be more like a 3-dimensional sculpture. It is this tension between 2-d and 3-d that became the most intersting to me. The cane is handpulled from furnace glass and rolled in colored frit or powder in the hot shop.
