Cardinals, a "Loving Couple"

0 loves

My piece is a 11" wide x 18" long.  I wanted to display this couple in their red and colorful splendor on a white, wintery background.  The cardinals are an inspiration from my own backyard here in Ohio.  Our State Bird--they mate for life and the male carefully guards the female while she eats at the feeder, watching from high on a branch above.

I used real branches and overlayed them with copper foil, then burnished them and used a copper then black patina to create a nice brown look.  I painted his wing and offset it on the main body to make it appear it was slightly flapping.  Their feet are formed out of copper wire and then hooked around the branches to create a dimensional effect.
