This is a glass on glass mosaic work of art, inspired by one of my favorite places in the Southwest, called Bisbee, AZ. Bisbee is located in southern Arizona, not far from the Mexico Border. It used to be a very busy copper mining town, with a thriving industry. The climate is fantastic, as it's a mile high city, located in the Mule Mountains. The hillsides are dotted with very unique homes, and wide varieties of architechture can be found throughout this historic town. Bisbee now is known, mostly as an artistic enclave, hosting numerous festivals and small town celebrations throughout the year. Someday, my husband and I plan to retire to Bisbee and live there full time in our 100 year old Craftsman Bungalow home that is currently a work in progress.

This mosaic was created by painting the glass substrate with a special paint that contains real copper particles. I then oxidized the substrate in areas, and applied very thick tempered glass and bronze and copper beads.

Metallic paint effects are also in the grout.

This work of art is approximately 13 inches in diameter.
