Butterfly Transom

Description:

This is a commissioned piece that was part of a kitchen refresh.  The client selected clear Everglade glass as a replacement for the 1970's vintage brown textured plastic inserts in the kitchen cabinet doors.  The client wanted a focal point over the range featuring butterflies.  The doorway into the kitchen had a transom with the same plastic insert in it.  I recommended a free hanging piece for the transom so that they could take it with them if they decided to move in the future.

I custom designed the 10" x 33" transom utilizing the Everglade glass in the border to tie it into the theme in the kitchen.  The butterflies are similar to the ones featured in the cabinet doors.  Because of the size of the transom I added copper strips for internal structural reinforcement.  If they should decide to move down the road, the free hanging panel can be removed and replaced with a pane of Everglade I provided and it still works with the rest of the kitchen.
