This vase/blown glass vessel was inspired by a chair covered in a fabric made with Suzani embroidery. The base color of this chair is purple and it is full of intiricate floral designs and patterns. I have always been inspired by patterns that have a lot going on but balance between calm and chaos. I decided to create a flattened circle vase with similar colors to mimic the shape and designs of the chair.
This vase measures about 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 2 inches and is perfect for holding any object you can think of, from flowers, greenery, and even pens and pencils.
As for process, I started by making various colors of glass cane and even twisted some of them to give added dimension. I then arranged them on a kiln shelf alternating between clear and colored cane so that when I rolled it on top of the purple bubble, the purple would still show. Then it was time to make my vase! I started with a clear bubble and dropped a pruple color bar on top of it. Once I reached the desired lenghth and width I rolled on the different cane colors and then shaped it all into a big bubble. Next, I used cork paddles to flatten both sides and finally I slightly opened the top of the form to clean it up, making sure not to lose the original shape.
Thank you so much for your time!!
