Leopard Panel

Description:

This panel was built when I was taking an African Art History course at my university. I decided to study the Akan culture, which is a group of people that use proverbs very heavily in their daily life. I chose to illustrate the proverb, "The rain wets the leopard's skin but does not erase its spots" into a stained glass panel. I chose to create a leopard with a determined look on it's face surrounded by rain, represented by the blue glass. This proverb spoke to me because I interpreted it to say that even though tough times happen in life, they are never permanent and can never change who you are at your core.

This panel meausres 19 1/2 inches wide by 17 inches tall.

I have always been inspired by big cats so I'm glad I got the chance to create this leopard stained glass panel with a deeper meaning. I enjoyed every step of making this panel from cutting out all 97 pieces, lining them in copper foil, soldering the pieces together, and finally adding black patina and finishing with lead came around the perimeter.

Thank you for your time!
