Description:

Intense heat colors within the circular design moves the viewer, journeying into a deep perspective. My “Compression” series is a foray into experimentation with transparent and opaque fusing glass.  The integration of differing colors, sizes, thicknesses, shapes, and opacity are merged under heat and pressure into a unique visual pattern.

My “Compression” series is a foray into experimentation with transparent and opaque fusing glass.  The integration of differing colors, sizes, thicknesses, shapes, and opacity are merged under heat and pressure into a unique visual pattern.

Hundreds of glass pieces are scored, broken, and ground to form the design composition.  Multiple high temperature firings under pressure and days in the glass kiln are needed to fuse and flow together.  Each firing program takes between 18 to 24 hours and another 24 hours before the artwork is cool enough to be taken out.  The artwork will need 2 – 4 separate firings.

This technique creates a physical movement, compressing and shifting colors and perspective.
