To capture the essence of the four school areas, I sent a questionnaire to a variety of faculty and administrators requesting words or phrases that represented their school community. What appeared most often were the similarities between districts and the families that are created from elementary through high school. The project became more about the entire school system and representing the most common responses of: love, nature, family, and creativity.
The four panels represent the four high school districts through their respective school colors and variations.
In combination, the panels hold the most-repeated descriptions of Rockingham County and its school system and the themes run through the work as a whole.
Panel 1: Reds and oranges represent Love, Compassion, Passion, Commitment
Panel 2: Greens and yellows represent Nature, Beauty, Environment
Panel 3: Blues and purples for Community, Connections, Interactions, and Collaboration
Panel 4: Clear, white and gray represent Creativity, Inspiration, Energy, and Excitement
The panels are unified by a piece-work style, where colors are used in multiples of three and a little bit randomly; together, the glass is a collection of color more than its four individual designs. The panels share a fluidity, and the top and bottom of each panel repeats the mountain range from the RCPS logo.
