This is a stained glass mosaic of a mermaid. This piece is 18” x 27” and took me 70 hours to complete. Each piece of glass was hand cut using a carbide cutter. I used my bandsaw to cut some of the harder to break glass. The shape of each distinct piece of glass was determined as the piece was built out. There was no pattern used for glass shapes, placement or flow. The stained glass was glued down to cabinet grade plywood and then grouted. Some of the glass used included Oceana cobalt blue iridized, a lot of Youghiogheny opal iridized mottled in blues, greens and black, Bullseye black opal rainbow iridescent 90 COE, Oceana white opal and gold purple, Youghiogheny iced white iridized stipple, MLW Vivid ruby mirror, Van Gogh and mirror. Beads, pearls and rhinestones were also used to adorn the mermaid.
