I adore Art Nouveau, and my design for this suncatcher was inspired by Czech painter Alfons Mucha's "Dance". This is the second in a series I am making of Art Nouveau inspired stained glass. I love making long, flowing lines with the glass, creating motion with a medium that is, in reality, rigid and brittle. The dancer's hair, dress, and veil gave me a lot of curvy inspiration. My studio is my kitchen counter and I don't have a lot of equipment. I don't have a circle cutter yet, so I made a circle of wire to border the black flat glass and colored cabochons that make up the three medallions on the outer ring. The purple and pink of her dress are derived from the same sheet of glass, cut strategically to get the concentration of colors I wanted. Her veil is iridescent.
