Big Red

Big Red measures about 38" x 24" including the metal.  The glass itself measures about 24" x 9".  This was made by cutting a large red opal base and building on top of the red.  So, all of the other colors had to be opal.  You will note I use powder frit in the beak with a thin piece of purple vitrograph that I pull.   The feathers were individually cut and ground.  I made them look like they had shading by adding power frit.  In the body of the bird I used fine black frit.  In the blue feathers I added blue vitrograph and adventurine blue powder frit to each feather.  After the bird was out of the kiln I took it to my friends home who is a metal artist and I designed a simple backgroud for Big Red.
