Description:
I volunteer at Wild Arc Animal Hospital, where the staff there treat wounded & orphaned native wildlife - birds, birds of prey, owls, deer, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, bats, beavers, seals, mice, etc. There is an annual fundraising auction as this is a non profit organization with no government funding, so I made this wildlife themed panel as a donation for the event. It is 23" in diameter, featuring penguins and the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis). This pattern was designed by Prairie Studio Glass in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where I used to work in the early 2000's. I had their permission to use their design for the donation, as this was the only copy of the pattern (they had gifted it to me when I moved away in 2004). I used Delta Sandblast architectural glass for part of the ice flow the penguins are standing on (which is thicker than standard stained glass), as well as a vibrant Wissmach mixed cathedral glass for the background to represent the Southern Lights in the night sky.
