Forest Chapel GOG Mosaic

This is the portable artwork I'm submitting to the silent auction at the CMA2 conference in Eugene, OR in May 2024. I've been working on a 175 s.f. mosaic installation for a public restroom that invokes a sense of the sacred in nature, and the concept of sun rays shining through trees is prominent in the large commission. I decided to try to make a small, simple piece for this auction toying with this concept in a similar way. The 9" x 17" frame required a very simple design to be effective. I have used texture and striations in the glass to emphasize the contrast between vertical lines suggesting tree trunks and horizontal lines in the same color fields suggesting the light passing through trees.

This is glued to a clear glass pane with clear adhesive, and is grouted with Laticrete Dazzle Glow, a translucent epoxy grout that actually glows in the dark for a fun bonus.
