Hold On
Fused Glass, 8x10 inches
In this 8x10 fused glass piece, a young woman stands before a blazing sunset, the sky saturated in molten oranges, embers of red, and fading traces of blue. The horizon feels alive, as though the day itself is exhaling in fire. Her hair streams backward in restless strands, yet her posture remains firm, anchored.
In her hand, she holds a delicate black leash. At its end floats not a kite, but a butterfly, vivid and luminous against the burning sky. The image bends reality just enough to feel like a dream. A butterfly does not belong on a tether, and yet here it hovers, fragile wings open, suspended between flight and fidelity.
“Hold On” becomes a surreal meditation on steadfastness. The butterfly is beauty, hope, faith, love, whatever the viewer carries that feels both precious and breakable. The leash is not ownership. It is devotion. It is the quiet decision to remain connected, even when everything else feels like it is dissolving into flame.
The fused glass itself deepens the meaning. Shards once separate have been transformed through heat into something unified and enduring. Under pressure, they did not scatter. They became whole.
Set against the intensity of sunset, this work invites reflection on what we choose to hold close. In a world that shifts like firelight, there is strength in guarding what is beautiful and fragile, and courage in refusing to let it slip away.
