Vegetable Table

This table evolved over a 2 year period.  I wanted to change our kitchen theme from fruit (we had the 3'x5' "Hidden Fruit" table I made in 2003 in our kitchen) to a vegetable theme.  I searched and collected sheets of glass where I found sections with just the right color formations suggesting different vegetables.  Over this period, I would cut the vegetables as I found just the right pieces of glass.  I did all the carrots first because I waned them to be the focal point.  ( had found this awesome 3 dimensional carrot pitcher of 5 standing carrots with the leaves forming the handle.)  this actually was the incentive to "Go vegetables."  I bought a cherry counter height gathering table and chairs and sanded the table top.  It was exciting seeing each piece evolve!  I love the beets, celery, sliced onions, asparagus, lettuce, corn husks, and yes, the carrots!  When I thought I finally had enough veggies cut, I scattered them out around the table, climbed up a ladder to get a bird's eye view, climbed down, made some changes, climbed back up ... and repeated until I got it just right.  Since I do my designs free form all the pieces over lapped each other , so the next step was to out line the overlap of each piece and trim them to fit and lay flat. I chose black for the field to fit in with our black counter tops.  Grouted ... and oh, how it sparkles!  Pictures just don't do justice to the spectacular reflective properties of stained glass!  The tomatoes are the opalescent red glass and opalescent green leaf centers.  Shimmers!  Made a veggie lazy susan for the island with the extra vegetables I had cut.
