Description:
This piece measure a total of 15" X 9", from the tips of the decorative wire hangers to the tips of the wire grass, which winds its way across the piece, lending a 3D effect of savannah grass.
The zebra itself is constructed of opaque black and white glass, and I've carefully cut a black cabochon into the shape of the eye. The contrasting stripes along the side are made using alternating transparent grey glass and iridescent black glass. My choice of these glasses for the side make it seem more like a background, propelling the image of the zebra forward.
I had some fun with the framing of this piece. The inner zebra is set into lead, and the entire inner piece has been treated with a black patina. A larger zinc frame surrounds it, and decorative wire suspends the zebra within the outer frame.
