Beachy Vase

The beachy vase is all Bullseye glass.  It is powder on fiber backed with aqua, with a thick, color-shift frit rim.  I arranged the frit to produce just a few holes in the rim, reminiscent of water, foam, and sand. 

Although the Beachy vase is quite stable and stands very well on its own, I created a sculptural base for the piece out of local soapstone.  After marking the shape of the base on the stone, I used a chisel and mallet to hollow the stone to fit, and sculpted the stone with metal rasps and sanding sponges.  Visually, the combination of vase and stand gives the movement and flow I wanted for the piece.
