Fontana Mosaic Selfie Wall

This is a 13' x 16' stained glass mosaic mural commissioned by the City of Fontana, CA, completed in May 2026. The city is revitalizing their downtown corridor into an arts district and this mural backs a pedestrian area between a large parking garage and Stage Red Theater, flanked by the civic center and a beautiful new library. Arts and culture events will be taking place in and around this space, so it will serve as a backdrop for festivals, fairs, concerts, and more. The mural is striking from the road, about 150 feet away, while being visually interesting for pedestrians exploring up close. 

All variety of glass was used for this project. It is about 50% Oceanside and the rest is a mix of Bullseye, Yougheogheny, Wissmach, and Kokomo, and even a lot of discontinued and salvaged glass, such as that from a demolished Seattle church. I used mirrored and irid glass for windows and in the fountain, and lots of iridescent in the mountains and sky. Textured glass was used strategically to give dimension in the foliage and water.

The entire sky was fabricated by Oregon mosaicist Joanne Daschel. I collaborated with Jill Carter Designs on the template. Gratitude goes to my assistants: Jenna Shellman, Austin Davis and Elias Briggs, and during installation: Hannah Maximova and Otto Sturke.
