Product Description

Features cool touch technology!
The Hot Shot clamshell kiln is the perfect kiln for any glass artist. Kiln features clam shell design providing easy access to load the 16" square by 6" deep firing chamber. Ideal for easy front access allowing you to move your project in and out of the kiln at ease as well as raking or other manipulation techniques. Comes equipped with a cordierite kiln shelf. Plus, huge bonus the floor is 100% removable so you could work on your projects at your workstation too!

What does cool touch technology mean? It means the body of the kiln never reaches above 15 degrees ambient temperature allowing you more workspace around your kiln. This kiln only requires 3" surrounding it. It is built with a high-quality powder coating core construction with a fan cooled external powder coated enclosure. It features a dual layer air plenum for external heat management and precise temperature control.

The included TAP controller is a touch screen that comes with 16 total pre-set programs for glass; 8 programs for 90 COE and 8 programs for 96 COE, PLUS it stores 22 custom programs. Just select your program and fire with confidence! This is a dream kiln for beginners to professionals.

Advanced Features

  • Solid State Relay: This kiln is equipped with a solid state relay. Solid state relays have a much longer life span than traditional manual/mechanical relays. They are also much more energy efficient. Relying on a semiconductor instead of the electromechanical relays means no clicking sound when running.
  • Elements are encased in Quartz Tubes: No need to worry about elements flaking into your projects.
  • Programmable Alarm: Each unit comes standard with an integrated alarm that can be set to alert the user when a desired point or temperature is reached in the program.
Imagine what you could make with this kiln! Runs on standard 120v household current. 18 month manufacturer warranty.

Get to Know the TAP Controller
Get started the easy way with the user-friendly touch screen that is capable of holding virtually unlimited programs. TAP, by SDS Industries, is the first commercially available consumer kiln controller that utilizes an intuitive graphical user interface to enable the glass artist to immediately start programming and operating their kiln. Scott Shannon identified a significant disconnect between current technology and the consumer options available in the kiln control domain. The TAP Controller with its smart-phone like interface provides access to logging capabilities, unlimited number of schedule segments, on-the-fly schedule modifications, and even software updates.

Pre-Set Firing Programs for Beginners
It's simple to full fuse, slump, tack fuse and fire polish with pre-set firing programs. Whether you are fusing with 90 or 96 COE glass, the TAP controller makes it easy! Kiln includes 8 pre-set programs for each type of glass.

More Options for Professionals!
Create and store virtually unlimited custom programs. Make one for every project, like drop rings, pattern bars, pot melts, enameling, painting and so much more. The controller grows with you as your skills advance. Its size and customizable firing options allows you to create simple to complex projects.

Fully Adjustable
In all modes you can adjust time, temperature and skip a firing step to go to the next segment. See Delphi's exclusive pre-programmed, fully customizable, easy-to-use TAP Controller in additional images.

  •   Hot Shot HS 16G Clamshell Kiln - Love It!
By on
Pros : This kiln is very easy to use, including the TAP controller! The shelf is removable, so you can work on your project outside of the kiln and then just set it inside to fuse it! Another great feature is the "Cool Touch" design! When the temperature inside the kiln is at 1500 Degrees F the top of the kiln is around 120 Degrees F. This kiln design also reduces the distance the kiln can be installed close to walls or other objects. Delphi also offers a complete fusing package called The Ultimate Studio in A Box. This kit is a great deal, as you get everything you need to start fusing! The kiln also has the TAP 2 controller that is preprogrammed fusing schedules for both 90 & 96 COE glass.
Cons : If you have "Fat Fingers" you need to use end of pen cap to program the fusing schedules. However, still very easy to program!
Other Thoughts : Plan on purchasing the HS 24G kiln in the future, to handle even larger projects, as it is 24" x 24" and has 14" inside height!

  •   Love this kiln!

Pros : - Full control from mobile app. - East to create and modify schedules - shows me the cost of every fire - nice design and lift for the door - stays cold all the time even the fan in the back is always cold air.
Cons : I work in tech so take my software opinions with a grain of salt. The app could use some work. 1. I should be able to see all details of previous firings like cost, length/time of each step etc. Currently they only show the ramp graph. - occasionally the app throws an error saying the firing aborted but when you hit ok it’s still running.
Other Thoughts : All in all a great kiln!! Love it!!

When and how did you get started in stained glass? Ive been interested in stained glass for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would sit in churches and watch the (often) biblical depictions come to life when a stray ray of sunlight cast its illumination our way. Sun shadows dancing. I dabbled in many media over the years, trying to find an outlet for some of the visions careening inside, but none of them took. Drawing, painting - even watercolours - no amount of professional training could guide my hand in a satisfactory way. But then there was the glass. I lived abroad for a few years, and wound my way through Europe on my way back to the States when I finished my Peace Corps Service. My last international destination was Paris, where one of my closest friends lives as an organist. Two beautiful autumn

Chances are, right now, in reading this blog post, youre avoiding an overdue task. I too was avoiding a laundry list of work-related tasks in writing this. Procrastination is a part of life, and its certainly always been a part of mine. As a teenager, my parents would accuse me of putting off everything from piano practice to math homework. Id vehemently deny their charges hissing back, I work better under pressure. The truth was, I often felt overwhelmed, under-productive and anxious. Over the years, Ive been able to combat my avoidance issues using 4 tools. The trick is constantly reminding myself of these actions, because they do not come naturally to me. 1. Just Say No. I say yes to everything. Need someone to head up that event? Sure. Want me to design 12 posters for the Car Wash? No problem. Take your kid to daycare? Of course.
