Product Description

A staple for hot glass artists, you will find frit useful for many applications, including jewelry and casting projects. Frit is made from sheets of System 96 art glass which is crushed, screened, and then packaged in convenient 8.5 oz jars. 96 COE. Glass is transparent.

This color is a copper-bearing formulation that can be used to create stunning effects when combined with Red Reactive glass and frit by taking advantage of chemistry and heat. As the particles of adjacent glass melt, the elements in Red Reactive glass or frit respond to neighboring glass containing copper and cause a color change where they meet. This reaction appears as a red-tone line or halo that can vary in intensity depending on copper content, temperature and time. Deep Aqua color typically results in a strong reaction to Red Reactive Transparent glass #X60003, Red Reactive Transparent frit #XF0032, and a strong reaction to Red Reactive Opal glass #X60045, Red Reactive Opal frit #XF0452. Extending the firing time, increasing the processing temperature or adding additional firings can help intensify the reaction created when you create with this glass and Red Reactive. Frit size can be used to control the opacity of your cast project, the larger the grit the better the clarity as showcased in the frit pyramid shown in additional images. Fine and medium frit are excellent for adding small details to your fused project as shown the nature scenes created by artists Melanie Churchill and Julie Haan. This spring, both System 96 and Bullseye have announced the expansion of their color palettes, and both have offered up some inspired (and inspiring) new hues for your glass art. The colors capture some of the more subtle shades that appear in nature when the lighting is just right - those magic moments when the world takes your breath away. They are also the colors that appear in tremendous works of art, from memorable paintings to your next project. Let these fresh colors inspire your designs. When and how did you get started in stained glass? Ive been interested in stained glass for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would sit in churches and watch the (often) biblical depictions come to life when a stray ray of sunlight cast its illumination our way. Sun shadows dancing. I dabbled in many media over the years, trying to find an outlet for some of the visions careening inside, but none of them took. Drawing, painting - even watercolours - no amount of professional training could guide my hand in a satisfactory way. But then there was the glass. I lived abroad for a few years, and wound my way through Europe on my way back to the States when I finished my Peace Corps Service. My last international destination was Paris, where one of my closest friends lives as an organist. Two beautiful autumn
